Greetings.

The PHA3  Planning meeting is scheduled for the 22nd of June 2012 at
1500hrs. The PHM focal person shall convene the meeting at his offices
(CWGH offices - 114 McChlery Avenue Eastlea). The agenda is detailed
below: (please note: there are no supporting papers attached; check
the time for the meeting).

The meeting shall deliberate the following:

Procedural
Apologies and Welcome
Minutes of the last meeting
Matters arising
Chair's Urgent Business

Funding
The funding pool
Prospective funders and PHM Zim current funding status

PHM Governance renewal
The process and the Zim Status

PHA3 Participation
1) presentations at the assembly (please bring your draft presentation
for peer input)
2) Materials i.e banners, t-shirts, caps, posters, pamphlets etc
3) the public meeting(s) and grassroots participation.

If you are unable to attend the meeting  please advise so that your
apologies can be considered

Medical Practitioners Calls off their strike in Kenya

Medical practitioners operating at Kenya's largest public hospital called Kenyatta National Hospital went on strike yesterday and paralysed all medical services within that health institution for 10 hours. They were demanding that the government of Kenya should pay them their due arrears for 11 months adding up to a total of 87 million Kenya shillings. Patients waited patiently in the hospital wards and on long queues for the strike to be called off or solved by the relevant authority. Relevant ministers were at that moment attending a constitution conference at the Kabete about 10 kilometers away from the hospital. When PHM Kenya representative arrived to the hospital, the hospital administration had already made promise to pay the nurses as soon as possible and the nurses agreed to resume back to work this morning. Urban Refugees’ right to healthcare services in the wake of COVID-19: Leave No One Behind

As the global community tirelessly grapples to contain the spread of COVID-19, I am worried about the fate of hundreds of thousands of urban refugees living in Uganda; a country with an ailing healthcare system that is largely characterized by drug stock-outs, shortage of health workers, limited access to health services and limited coping capacity. That notwithstanding, Uganda hosts approximately 1,394,678 refugees fleeing persecution, conflict, devastating effects of climate change, and human rights violations from neighboring countries such as Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan among others. Out of 1,394,378 refugees, 66,464 refugees reside in Kampala (Kampala central, Makindye, Kawempe, Nakawa, Nansana, and Rubaga).
