Objective of Summit according to the minister of Health: Minister of Health, Professor Oyebuchi Chukwu, said the aim of the summit, among other objectives, was to unlock the opportunities for universally accessible, effective, efficient and equitable healthcare in Nigeria. The first South African People's Health University (SAPHU) is currently taking place (2-6 December 2013) at the School of Public Health, University of Western Cape) organised by PHM South Africa in conjuction with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (NEHAWU). There are approximately 50 participants consisting of members of NEHAWU, Oxfam and PHM activists (from Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal). On 28-30 October 2013, in Kampala, Uganda, PHM country circles in eastern Africa came together to define regional health priorities and to coordinate actions for PHM across seven countries. Delegates from Djibouti, Somaliland, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda shared experiences and worked toward a common PHM East Africa action plan, built on country programmes. Ideas on building and maintaining strong grassroots movements were discussed, with support from Linda Shuro, the Africa Regional Coordinator. PHM country circles contributed resources to make the regional meeting possible, and French/English interpretation was provided courtesy of PHM Rwanda.  A joint launch of Global Health Watch 3 took place at the closing ceremony on 30 Oct., in Kampala, followed by the issuing of PHM East Africa's Kampala Call to Action, signed by the PHM delegations.
